Twitter Analytics: Tweet | Measure | Evaluate

Back in July of this year Twitter has acquired Backtype. a social analytics company platform which had launched BackTweets Pro (http://backtweets.com/tour) in May before its acquisition.

“BackTweets is the only product that closes the loop for marketing on Twitter, helping brands, agencies and publishers understand how engagement on Twitter converts to web traffic, sales or other key performance indicators they’re interested in,” says BackType founder Christopher Golda.

For bloggers like my self especially those who use WordPress, BackTweets is considered to be the best out of all WordPress Twitter Plugins, which unlike other twitter plugins, allows you to customize the look and feel of the bottoms to sync with the theme and design of your blow, and allows any clicker to travel straight into twitter with having to Oauth any other apps. (Maybe I should consider getting rid of that Twitter Marquee on the header and add a simple BackTweet Button instead)

Similar to Facebook insights now Markets have the chance to measure, monitor and evaluate the reach and success of their tweets with this platform, which shows the tweets, retweets, replies and impressions per tweet, alongside a graph of twitter activity on daily, weekly and or monthly basis.

BackTweets is now the Web Analytics Tool for Twitter, released and shall be known from this day forward as “Twitter Analytics”. According to Mashable who announced the service about an hour ago on their platform; Christopher Golda who founded BackType is the new platform staffer, who assures that this analytics platform will “will help publishers and website owners understand three key things: How much of their content is being shared on Twitter, how much traffic Twitter is sending their way and how well Tweet Buttons are performing.”

The service will be available for free and is currently BETA where only a small group of partners is gaining access.

It’s about time Twitter brings in a measurement tool, what is social media without measurement? Can’t wait for the platform to be available for all tweeps to enjoy!

Apple makes changes to bring on more partnerships for iAd

The Wall Street Journal reported this evening that Apple isn’t seeing the success they’d like with their iAd platform. The company has deployed iAd as an advertising platform throughout their iOS devices in the summer of 2010 and is now making changes in the hope of attracting both more developers and ad spending. First off, Apple is reportedly lowering the entry-level cost for marketers to $400,000 – down from $500,000 and even lower from the original $1 million when the platform was launched. Apple is also reportedly putting new caps on what it charges for clicks on ads, letting advertisers pay $10 each time an advert is viewed every 1,000 times (CPM) and $2 every time it’s specifically tapped on.

So why is Apple making these changes? Apple had tied for the lead in ad market share last year, but has reportedly fallen back to the third place in 2011 advertising market share, behind Millennial Media (#2) Google (#1), per IDC. Hoping to re-gain lost share, Apple is also launching a training program to bring in more advertisers onto the network, partnering with its media buying agency OMD, part of Omnicom Group Inc. to educate new advertisers on iAd, a standard practice providers of digital advertising platforms such as Google and Yahoo! have been exercising from the onset. In the recent weeks, executives from Pepsi, Clorox and JC Penny have reportedly visited Apple’s campus to talk about iAd. OMD also hopes to lure more advertisers in February 2012.

SoMoLo will continue to rise in importance
Social. Mobile. Local. SoMoLo will drive a ton of disruption when it comes to finding the most relevant customers and offering them something of value.

Marketing as providing utility
Marketing models that provide constant value to the customer — regardless of whether they intend to buy anything or not — will accelerate when compared to Shouting (yelling at people hoping you catch them at the moment of purchase).

The downfall of dashboards
People in the Analytics world whose primary contribution is to puke data will find themselves with fewer and fewer contracts/jobs. People who provide a list of actions to take, rather than a puke of data in “dashboards,” will find they are richer than they anticipated.
